With the fitness trend Zumba taking the world by storm we knew aqua Zumba would be equally as successful and 2012 is looking to be the year it really takes off in the UK.
Zumba has added the fun element to aerobic workouts and helped get thousands of people across the UK fit and in shape whilst also meeting people. It was no surprise then, when the franchise started offering more and more ways to integrate the fun philosophy of Zumba dance into other ways of working out.
Zumba has other areas to workout including, Zumba circuits, Zumba toning, Zumba Gold, Zumbatomic, Zumba Gold Toning and Aqua Zumba. In this post we are only going to look at Aqua Zumba but the others will be covered in time.
Aqua Zumba is as it suggests a Zumba aerobic workout in the pool, just as Zumba has made aerobics classes more fun it makes sense that they would do the same with aqua aerobics and from this idea Aqua Zumba was born.
Water is great for improving fitness levels as you automatically have resistance with the water, therefore the need for weights is not as necessary. This resistance is all over your body therefore you have to work a lot harder to do the same movements as you would out of the water increasing your work out levels, heart rate and gets you into those fat burning and cardiovascular zones much quicker.
Water is also very supportive so if you have any injuries or have been advised to do low impact exercises due to joint issues then water will support your body whilst acting as resistance cushioning the impact on your muscles and joints and also providing a great workout.
With the fun side of Zumba packing your bag and going to a pool to participate in Aqua Zumba is a more exciting idea making it a lot easier to do on those days when you really can’t be bothered.
At the moment Aqua Zumba hasn’t really taken off in the same way as Zumba and this is due to knowledge, training of instructors and finding pools to participate. However as many Zumba fans are getting fit the next step and challenge in their fitness means Aqua Zumba will be the next step. The added resistance from the water means another level of toning and fitness and of course fun. Look out for more and more people getting on board with Aqua Zumba in the UK and see if a pool near you will be joining in, this is a new fitness workout that can help you get in to shape whilst having fun.
