Note: USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic is a powerful muscle building supplement, that has been designed for athletes to build muscle mass quickly. It should not be used for weight loss or by anyone under the age of 18 years old. It should be used only by bodybuilders or athletes on a weight gain programme.
I’m a big fan of all in one supplements, which may surprise some people, but I just like the convenience of having a single protein shake. Until October last year (2011) I was a big advocate for Maximuscle products, including their all in one supplement – Maximuscle Cyclone. My only real issue with this product was the price, and although certain supplement stores online offered some good prices, I found myself looking for a number of cheaper alternatives with mixed success. During my research I tried a number of products and brands, and fell in love with USN’s range of products. Seemingly I wasn’t the only one, as there are some fantastic independent reviews of there product range.
So the first product I tried was USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic. When I finally made the decision to try it, there seemed to be low stock levels in all my usual supplement suppliers which meant that not only did I have to buy a 4Kg tub (better value for money, but 4kg is a lot when just trying it out!) but the only flavour available was strawberry (personally, I’m a chocolate fan). Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed.
USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic: Ingredients
The quality of the ingredients with USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic are great. Each serving (150g / 3 scoops) contains:
- 50g anabolic protein matrix with an advanced amino acid delivery formula
- 14,300mg HyerBolic stack to optimise muscle growth
- Growth Hormone release from 5,000mg Glycine
- 1,500mg Taurine to maximise nutrient and amino acid uptake and energy production
- 7,000mg Creatine stack for muscle growth, power and volumisation
- High in BCAA’s and Glutamine to assist in muscle growth and nitrogen retention
- Lacatazyme blend (Lactose enzymes) for optimal milk absorption
Each serving contains 538 calories, 50g protein, 78g carbohydrates and 2g fat.
Okay so it sounds impressive, but for those not in the know, what does it all mean? Well lets look at each point. There are 50g protein per serving which is really high, and this is a matrix made up from whey protein isolates and concentrates, micellar casein, milk protein isolate, calcium caseinate and a soy isolate. Although isolates are definitely the highest grade, it’s good to have a blend/matrix of proteins. The only one I’m not too sure about is the soy protein (research has shown soy protein to be estrogenic) but this makes up a small part of the ingredients overall, and there are many other elements that will counter this.
The HyperBolic stack is made up of the ingredients in the points above, which include the Glycine, Creatine, Taurine and Tribulus Terrestris for testosterone support.
Some people may think that 78g carbs sounds high, which it is, but remember that this is a mass building formula. It’s also important to point out that the carbs aren’t just filler with no nutritional value like some cheaper weight gain supplements. Instead, the carbs are made up of, and I quote:
“A high-quality four-stage Glyco-Matrix Carb System, comprising Fast- & Slower Releasing Maltodextrin, Dextrose Monohydrate & Fructose, delivers the most essential carbs required for lean muscle growth and optimal glycogen storage”
USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic: The taste
As I mentioned earlier, I was initially disappointed that only strawberry flavour was available due to stock issues however I was really pleased with the taste. I find with some protein drinks it’s something that needs to be quickly endured, but I REALLY liked the taste of the strawberry. So much so, that I ordered it again when I got my second tub. Early this year (January 2011) I noticed that some highstreet retailers had started stocking USN products which is always a good sign of quality, which included Argos and Tesco. The prices were much more expensive than available elsewhere online, but I ended up buying a 2kg tub of chocolate flavour USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic when I realised I was running low (and I didn’t want to be without). Now I have to say, strawberry flavour is nice but the chocolate flavour is really really good. Even my work colleagues think it smells nice when I have it in the office, and I actually look forward to having it post workout. Now as I’ve mentioned in my other reviews, I know that taste is a difficult think to rate as it’s down to personal preference, but USN have some of the nicest tasting supplements I have tried.
USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic: Mixability
The mixability of USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic is very good. I don’t tend to shake it for long when adding water (maybe 10 seconds), I then leave it for about 30 seconds and give it another quick shake before drinking it and it mixes absolutely fine. It’s worth noting however, that the chocolate flavour seems to mix a lot quicker and easier than the strawberry flavour (has anyone else noticed this?). Also, with my post workout shake I have the powder already in the mixer and just add water (as opposed to adding the power to the water), and sometimes when I do this I get a little pocket of powder in the corner of the mixer. But, a powerful shake and it soon blends in with the rest. Compared to 95% of other protein shakes I’ve tried, this mixes really well and there are never lumps or a gritty texture.
USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic: Value for money
If you buy USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic from the right places online, it can work out pretty cheap for such a high quality product. The RRP of this product for a 4kg tub is £81.99 and it has 26 big servings per container (each tub lasts just under a month for me). You can buy it online for around £52 including delivery so it works out at roughly £2 per serving, which is a similar price per serving to Maximuscle Cyclone, but the serving size is over double. You may think this sounds expensive, but as it’s an all in one, you’re saving money on buying all the other products in there and you have the convenience of a single shake. Most importantly as I’ll discuss in the final part of this review, this product really works so that makes it good value in my eyes.
USN Muscle Fuel Anabolic: Results
I’ve been using this product on an off now for nearly 6 months, and I’m a huge fan. I used it to increase my weight from 184 lbs to 201 lbs in a 3 month period with very pleasing results last year, and I’ve started using it again now for my new weight gain diary so you can see the results for yourself. It really supports a weight gain programme well, and taking it as a post workout supplement gives your body everything it needs to build muscle. At 538 calories per serving and 50g protein, it also goes a long way to helping you reach your calorie goals for each day (which in my case are around 3,400 per day, 30% of those calories coming from protein). Taking this product with the right diet, and a good training programme will really help you achieve the results you want.
